Along the back and between the ribs, there are muscles that play an important part in breathing and can be subject to inflammatory chest pain. This muscle pain causing pain in the chest is usually confined to fairly small areas of the chest. The chest pain caused by muscles inflammation is worse when sitting of lying in certain positions or when you turn around. This type of chest pain can last from a few hours to a few days and they disappear before returning again in a few weeks.
