Low Cost Fitness Ideas
Start with modest investments
If you are just getting started and are
looking for fitness bargains, here are some low cost exercise
products you can buy fro home or travel.

Dumbbells. Small hand held weights
can help you strengthen your upper body. They come
in a variety of sizes from 2 pounds to 50 pounds.

Jump-ropes. They are lightweight
and easy to pack which makes them portable and easy
to take while travelling.

Resistance tubing and bands. Used
for strength training. These lightweight portable
bands come in varying degrees of resistance. You
can also change the level of resistance by changing
the way you hold the band. You can do a variety of
upper and lower body exercises with resistance
equipment.

Exercise videos. Recreate the feel
of an aerobics class in your home. Many videos are
good for improving strength and flexibility. Before
purchasing a tape check the instructors'
credentials. Pick a tape that matches your current
fitness level so that you don't get discourages by
exercises that are too hard or too easy. Borrow a
video from a library to see if you like it before
buying it.
Improvise and use your creativity
Keep to your budget by using ordinary
household items rather than purchasing equipment you cannot
afford.
- Fill empty water, milk or dish washing detergent
bottles with water or sand. Secure the top with duck tape
to create an inexpensive set of weights. Add more water or
wand as your fitness level changes. These weights are good
for upper body exercises and as added resistance for lower
body workouts.
- Canned Goods come in a variety of sizes and are easy to
hold in your hand as weights. You can take a pair of tube
socks and put an 8 ounce can in each. Tie the socks
together creating a 1 pound bag that you can use as an
ankle or hand weight.
- Bags of cereal, potatoes and frozen peas come in sizes
from one to 10 pounds. You can use them for a variety of
exercises, including chest presses, calf and shoulder
raises, leg extensions, and squats or lunges.
